Fashionista, Keys in life

Five Feet High and Risin’

“…Put your best dress on like a diva should…Walk above it all in your winner shoes.”  – “Ten Foot Stilettos” by Chrisette Michele

There is nothing like a high heel shoe. To me, they are the epitome of sexy. Slipping on a pair of heels changes my entire mindset – I feel like I can conquer whatever comes my way.

I’ve been told that I walk like I own the world – I get it from my Momma. I am 5’2 and people are often shocked when they see me in flats. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I’ve heard, “I thought you were taller.” And I respond by saying, “That’s because I walk tall.”

Sometimes we should take a moment to reflect on our lives. Giving

thought to our accomplishments as well as disappointments can help catapult us into becoming better people. I recall some moments in my life when I did not “walk tall.” I allowed negativity from others to dim my light. I will not do that again. Every day I am learning to love Towanda more.

“…Does my sexiness upset you? Does it come as a surprise that I dance like I’ve got diamonds at the meeting of my thighs?…

..Did you want to see me broken? Bowed head and lowered eyes? Shoulders falling down like teardrops, weakened by my soulful cries?…”  – Maya Angelou, “Still I Rise”

I found inspiration from the late Maya Angelou’s poem, “Still I Rise” on many occasions, and I believe it is befitting to pay homage to her work and the mark she left on the Black community and women as a whole.  I think we should look for inspiration in everyone we encounter and inspire them in return – including the ones who mean us harm.

It is true that the people who want to break us may not be open to embracing the light we have to offer, but that doesn’t mean we can’t extend it. No matter where you are in life or may be dealing with, keep rising. You can make it. This will only make you stronger. This too shall pass. But in the meantime, walk tall and keep rising.

Until the next time, be you and most importantly – love you.

Being uniquely you is being uniquely beautiful.
