Love & Happiness

Why?

Sometimes it is good to reflect on why. The question why can help us arrive at a reason or explanation for several things in life.

There are times when I ponder over why I created this blog and whether I should continue. But, there is a double-edged sword that always seems to arise when I ask myself, “why?”

Earlier today, I read an article regarding the recent tweet initiated by Gilbert Arenas about Lupita Nyong’o. Mr. Arenas expressed his thoughts of the actress’ beauty, or in his opinion – the lack thereof, and compared her to an “ugly fat girl.”

As I read the tweet, I found his remarks offensive for several reasons. Being a dark-skinned fat girl who experienced being called ugly because of it, reminds me of the true ugliness that is in the world. However, I do realize and respect the fact that we are all entitled to our opinion.

There is no law or expectation for Mr. Arenas to find Ms. Nyong’o – or me for that matter, attractive. Which, brings me to my “why.” Even though I loathe the words that were written by this man, I am appreciative of the reminder to encourage and inspire self-love.

As cruel as it may seem, there will always be someone who is not going to accept you. It may be because of some unresolved personal inadequacy or they may just be an ass. Whatever the reason is, love yourself enough to realize another person’s opinion of you will only define you if you allow it.

I saw another tweet a few weeks ago that I shared on our Facebook page that reads as follows;

“Psychology says: you don’t really need someone to complete you. You only need someone to accept you completely.”

I’ve added my two cents – that someone should be you.

Until the next time, be you and most importantly – love you.

Being uniquely you is being uniquely beautiful. – No matter what anyone else thinks.
