About two months ago I was asked if I write fashion posts geared toward men. Well, the fact of the matter is, I started working on one some time ago, and since someone inquired about such topics, I felt inspired to finish it and outline others. With this in mind, I decided to make this particular post about another question he asked: “What do women like to see their men wear”? Considering I am a woman, I feel confident in saying I am well-equipped to answer this question—from my perspective, of course.
There are two looks for men that I’m drawn to the most, and at the top of my list is the classic dress shirt, suit, and tie combo—and please don’t forget the pocket square. In my humble—and in this instance—solicited opinion, every man should own at least three quality well-fitted suits. I see them as a necessary staple in every man’s closet, which is a mindset I owe to my parents.
When I was a kid, I watched my dad lay out his clothes on Saturday night in preparation for church on the following day. He gave a lot of thought to the shirt, the tie, and the pocket square that created the precise look he wanted that complemented his suit of choice. And it would be remiss of me not to mention watching him meticulously polish his shoes, which was an equally important part of his overall look.

Through observing my father, I quickly learned his style, which enabled me to pick out shirts and ties for him. I recall him calling for me to help him choose between ties and pocket squares—an event I think planted the “stylist” seed in me.
I also recall shopping with my mother. She would purchase items she liked to see on my father. Truth be told, she is the one who ignited my father’s interest in wearing a classic well-fitted suit.
Although I am quite fond of the more traditional styling, I’m also a fan of some tweaks and variations to it.

Skipping the tie and wearing a button down shirt with a suit is a favorable look on a man by this chick. These eyes also consider throwing on a sweater (preferably crewneck) or a turtleneck to be an acceptable and attractive polished look.
Now that you know one of the styles I like to see on men, let me share where I shop to find the pieces to achieve the outfits.
When I purchase clothes for the men in my life, I like visiting: Brooks Brothers, JoS. A. Bank, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Nordstrom, and—in times past—Target.
I typically turn to JoS. A. Bank, Macy’s, and Nordstrom when I’m shopping for all the items I mentioned: button down shirt, sweater, tie, turtleneck, or suit. I usually go to Kohl’s or Target for sweaters or turtlenecks.
I recently snagged a David Donahue shirt and tie from Nordstrom for my father. It’s a look he spotted on MSNOW anchor/journalist, Ali Velshi, I recreated for him.

Yes, that was a shameless plug—styling services are loading!
Now, let’s look at the expected prices of the stores I picked. I realize my thoughts regarding the price ranges of the stores are subjective, but I will share them any way.
I consider Brooks Brothers, JoS. A. Bank, and Nordstrom to be on the higher end of the spending spectrum. You can expect to spend multiple double digit dead presidents when patronizing these stores. With that being said, they all have sales where you can snag some good deals on some really nice stuff. Additionally, all three stores have a clearance section that offer lower prices.
Furthermore, you can visit your local (or online) Nordstrom Rack to find clothes at discounted prices. You could also potentially find Brooks Brothers items at a lower price there—I have.
I view Macy’s as the middle ground. Depending on which one you go to, you can expect to hold on to a few more Benjamins than you would at the aforementioned three stores.
Last, but not least, are Kohl’s and Target. Both stores offer the same styles at the lowest prices compared to the other four.
Bottom line, wherever you fall on the “spending spectrum” I created, you’ll be able to create the classic suit and tie combo this buxom beauty likes to see on a man.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I shared one of my preferred looks on a man—stay tuned for my strong number two contender.
In the meantime, ladies, have you shared what looks you like to see on the men in your life? And fellas, are you interested in learning what the lady in your life likes to see you wear?
Until the next time, be you— and more importantly—continue learning how to love yourself.
Being uniquely you is being uniquely beautiful.
